The following case study examines the Return 2 Health Magento ecommerce and Wordpress blog project :
The Client
Return2Health have been a client of LERO9 for many years utilising our design services. Return2Health are successful in selling quality natural health remedies for the ‘whole family’ online and have exclusive distribution with Australia and New Zealand for some of their product lines. With recent changes to the Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill, introducing a pharmaceutical model for low risk natural health products, Return2Health decided to further enhance credibility and trust with their customers through employing a highly qualified Naturopath in a front-line customer service role. They also decided they needed an ecommerce platform which would provide sustainable growth to their business in addition to extending the functionality and user experience of their online business.
The Objective
Return2Health had outgrown their existing site platform, identifying many limitations with the site architecture and with the usability of the interface. Over the years functionality had been bolted onto the store but what was really needed was a complete build – ground up. Return2Health’s Managing Director, Martin Thompson had a background in software development and IT and had been researching the Magento platform and was impressed with the features and promotional tools it provided. The objective was to redesign a new site built on the Magento framework that would provide a solid platform for growth in future years.
The Development
After several in-depth discussions and planning sessions we presented a detailed specification of the project. We assigned goals and objectives to each of the key pages on the site to ensure that visitors would use the site in the way we had intended.
We presented wireframes of each of these pages, carefully analysing the usability of each of different layouts. We refreshed the Return2Health brand giving it a vibrant and friendly appearance – we really wanted customers to feel uplifted when shopping on the site.It was important that the store portrayed a strong sense of credibility and trust for their customers reflecting the nature and quality of their products and services.
We made some enhancements to the standard Magento checkout based on previous usability issues we identified with the standard checkout. We formatted the one-page checkout to be horizontally tabbed with clear steps and icons at each stage to help customers identify where they were.
Other notable features on this site were the seemless integration of a WordPress blog into the Magento framework to provide a series of authoritative and educational health related articles. Other custom developed features for this project were ‘The Browse By Attribute’ which enables browsing by any store attribute such as manufacturer or price while retaining nice URL’s. We developed a ‘Custom Shipping Module ‘ which implements New Zealand zone shipping. We also enabled customers to join a Loyalty Club by filling in a registration form which takes them straight to the checkout with a virtual loyalty club product, which then automatically assigns the customer to a ‘loyalty club group’ once the payment is received. This enables Loyalty Club members to receive the benefits from the Loyalty Club when they next log in. We also used the ‘FooMan Speedster’ extension to combine and compress the javascript and style sheets which reduced the size of the pages and the loading time significantly.
Immediate Results
The launch of the new site has significantly repositioned the Return2Health brand to be one of the leading online natural health stores in Australasia. The feedback from Return2Health’s customers has been very positive, they have been delighted with the new website with its vibrant and friendly user interface.
The new store incorporates many enterprise level features and a streamlines operations. The end result is beautiful website which provides Return2Health with many promotional tools that they can utilise to further enhance their customer loyalty. Within 6 weeks of launching the site their sales conversion rate has increased by 3% and sales were up by 20%.
